We are a Purbeck charity with a mission to inspire music making in our local schools in the Isle of Purbeck. We invite professional musicians into schools to perform and encourage children to learn instruments and to sing.

Music is the background to our lives, on radio, television, film, in shops and on our phones. Many thousands of people attend festivals where live music can be so exciting and life changing.

Music is a science. It is mathematical, a foreign language, the beat of exercise classes and marching bands. It develops listening skills, introduces poetry and invites deep concentration, listening, team-work, communication and understanding .. but most of all, MUSIC is ART.

We believe exposure to music from a young age makes us truly human, helps us recognise beauty, sustains us, and nurtures compassion, gentleness and kindness.  Music is an essential element of life and is a vital building block for the overall development of young people.

Managed by representatives of Purbeck Art Weeks, Swanage & Purbeck Rotary, the Purbeck Instrument Loan Scheme and other educational organisations, PYM fills a gap in local provision, giving young talent the opportunity and support required to realise hidden potential.  Launched as a new initiative in 2019, PYM is now fully established as an ongoing and sustainable support organisation, and a registered charity.  Aligned with the Dorset Music Hub and BSO Participate, PYM provides a focal point for the provision of instrumental and vocal lessons, workshops and instruments in the Purbeck community.

PYM is funded entirely by donations and local sponsors to enable this critical effort in support of our Purbeck schools, their staff, and local music teachers.
